Calamitous Cardiff City Gift Ipswich The Win

Cardiff City succombed to an Ipswich Town fightback after a dire second ahlf saw the visitors take control and overturn a defecit as the Bluebirds gave up.

The first half was decent for Cardiff, although both defences looked shaky. Stern John and Jon Wlaters should have done better with headers for the Tractor Boys but Peter Whittingham twice hit the bar for the Bluebirds as Richard Wright was kept busy.

It was a similar situation as the Bluebirds broke the deadlock, Chopra fed Whittingham who slammed a sublime volley home from 16 yards – an unstoppable effort. There was little other action for either side save for a contentious decision when Bothroyd was hauled down, only for the referree to award a free-kick. He was too far from the action, but it was clearly inside the area.

After the break, it was a completely different story as the Bluebirds showed no fight or determination and sat back to disasterous effects. We simply didnt hold the ball and once again we passed across the back four to Kennedy, who launched a long ball to Bothroyd – predictable, un-ambitious and easy for Ipswich.

By contrast, the visitors picked up every loose ball in midfield and while they showed little attacking edge – few CCFC fans trusted Hudson and co. to keep them out. Eventually an equaliser came when Gavin Rae made a poor mistake in midfield, Ipswich broke and eventually found Walters in space who controlled well and volleyed home.

There only looked like one side was capable of chasing the game although we nearly got a reprieve when Bothroyd flicked home a free-kick – he was adjudged offside. After that, Cardiff City conceded an awful goal to throw away points no home team should have succombed. Jon Stead got the final shot, which deflected and crawled in at Enckelman’s near post.
