Cardiff City winger Peter Whittingham is again at the centre of more transfer speculation with the media reporting that recently relegated Burnley are interested in securing his services.

The ever reliable sun is reporting that the Clarets have officially registered their interest and have tabled a £1.75m bid for the ex-Aston Villa man.

Nottingham Forest have held a longstanding interest in Whittingham and previously had a £1m bid turned down. However, that was before the unbelievable goal-scoring exploits of last season and Whitts’ stock has surely soared.

A midfielder capable of netting 15 goals in a season is a prize asset and worthy of multi-million pound deals. While Whittingham surpassed that last season, there are doubts as to whether he will ever reach such heights again. However, when on form he does possess Premiership class and a bid far closer to his asking price, thought to be around £2.5-3m would be needed for the Bluebirds to accept.
