Cardiff City have been dealt a blow ahead of Wednesday’s crunch clash with Leicester City with the news that influential midfielder Chris Burke is a serious doubt with a groin strain hampering his movement.

Burke is a real livewire and has been a revelation for the Bluebirds this season. He was uncharacteristically quiet during the 1-0 success away on Sunday, and was replaced by the erratic Kelvin Etuhu during the second half.

Burke has been short of gametime in recent weeks meaning Jones gave the midfielder a start in the dead rubber away at Derby County, despite resting the vast majority of his starting XI.

If Burke is unfit, Etuhu or McCormack is set to deputise but that will represent a huge blow given Burke’s pace, trickery and attacking contribution. With Leicester needing to score at least twice to win the game, Burke’s threat on the counter attack would have been invaluable and Bluebirds fans will be hoping to see the Scottish winger pull through.
