Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and has been scoring goals for fun in addition to his usual role of creating chances for others and bringing midfielders into the game.

A brace against Leeds United on Monday evening saw him leap to the top of the Championship scoring charts and his impressive form has also seen him rise quickly up the Actim Index for the Championship. The Actim index compiles statistics from every Championship game using real-time match analysis conducted by ex-professional footballers at each match and post-match video analysis.

The statistics are derived from all the action that takes place during a match including goals, corners, shots, fouls, offsides, passes, saves, tackles and clearances. Actim then compile a list of the top 100 performing players for that week with each score added to player stats from previous matches and forming an aggregate ranking of every single Championship player.

Statistically speaking, Bothroyd is ranked as the second most important player in the Championship, behind Coventry City`s Ben Turner. He is also the only Bluebirds player to feature in the top 10 while fellow league leaders QPR have 3 players installed in the top 10.

There were doubts as to whether Bothroyd would be handed a retrospective ban over a nasty challenge on Leeds` Luciano Becchio. However, no action was taken and he is fit and ready to face Norwich City tomorrow. He remains on 4 yellow cards over the season and would miss the Swansea City derby clash if he picked up a further caution this weekend.

Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd is a leading contender for the PFA player-of-the-month award for October. An award made BY THE FANS. By voting, you could also win the chance to present Bothroyd with the award (if successful) on the CCS pitch. VOTE FOR JAY BOTHROYD NOW!
