Bluebirds & Swans Deals To End Gomis Interest ?

Cardiff City and local rivals Swansea City were both showing strong interest in striker Bafetimbi Gomis in recent weeks but progress had been slow in negotiations with the French striker. Plenty of media reports had suggested a competition for the Lyon striker’s signature between the two South Wales clubs but with wages demands known to be a stumbling block neither has yet been able to agree a deal.

However, today both Cardiff City and Swansea City have entered the transfer market and seemingly landed big money strikers. Cardiff City have agreed a move subject to medical for imposing Danish striker Andreas Cornelius, while the Swans seem set to announce the capture of Ivorian Wilfried Bony with fees of up to £8m and £10m respectively.

Neither South Wales club is abundantly blessed with transfer fees to splash around and while it was known that both clubs were seriously in the market for another striker – it is doubtful whether either could afford simultaneous deals if the prospect of a Gomis deal remained on.

It’s possible that Gomis was playing both clubs off against each other, with agents always keen to bump up their clients salaries by any means possible. Alternatively it could be that Gomis never had any intention on a move to South Wales and is holding out for interest from elsewhere. Either way it is certain that a striker deal is less of a priority for both clubs and Gomis’ options have decreased somewhat even if he was only using us to generate interest elsewhere.

Both CCFC and SCFC will be hoping their new acquisitions can come in and live up to their huge trasnsfer fees and make the kind of impacts that the likes of Lukaku, Benteke and demba Ba have done recently.
