Cardiff City are reportedly lining up a move for Celtic midfielder Stephen Pearson when the January transfer window opens.

Pearson is an attacking midfielder who signed for Celtic after impressing at SPL rivals Motherwell but has been overlooked in midfield this season in favour of Jiri Jarosik. Pearson’s agent Willie McKay also revealed that following constructive talks with manager Gordon Strachan, Pearson would be available for a January transfer if the £1 million valuation was met. McKay told the Daily Recoed:

‘Gordon can’t guarantee him (Pearson)a game every week and, while he would like to keep him at the club, he recognises Stephen needs first-team football.’

The news has alerted several Championship clubs with Derby, who had a £750k summer bid rejected, and Sunderland interested. Derby boss Billy Davies this week ruled himself out of the chase after filling that gap with David Jones from Manchester United.

Pearson has scored 18 goals in 90 SPL starts for Motherwell and Celtic. Pearson also has 5 international caps for Scotland.
