Cardiff City Captain Craig Bellamy has gone public with a bold claim that he will remain a Cardiff City player next season whether we are promoted or not.

If we manage to win the play-offs, that becomes possible with City able to afford far higher wages, and even pay Manchester City a fee for the Welsh forward.

However, in the event of another season in the Championship – the situation is far more complex – despite Bellamy’s claims. He has another year remaining at Eastlands, and while his future there looks over, the Citizens will surely look to use him as a makeweight in their bids for numerous other Premiership stars. A number of clubs would also be interested in taking Bellamy.

However, speaking today, Bellamy said:

‘If it is a missed opportunity this year, I will definitely be here next year, definitely. I want this club to get into the Premier League and even if it finishes my career doing so, I’ll make sure that happens.’

‘I’ve made too many promises to myself, my kids, my friends and people around me that if I don’t it’ll be a massive disappointment for me, but I’ll be here next year trying to do the same.’

‘My stance is clear on this. If I can’t play for Manchester City in the Premier League, I won’t play for anyone else in the Premier league. I’m adamant on that.’

‘They own me, they’re my club. If I can’t play for them, I won’t play for anyone else apart from Cardiff City.’

Bellamy’s £90k per week wages would represent the biggest stumbling block. If we were somehow able to buy out Manchester City’s stake, Bellamy would surely have to take a massive pay-cut to join his hometown club permanently. Furether (and significant) bonuses e.g. for promotion could be built in, but there would appear a great deal of work to be done.

Before any thoughts of Bellamy joining Cardiff City for next season are considered, the Bluebirds must focus solely on tomorrow’s trip to Burnley, and then on the play-offs for what surely represents a huge opportunity to acheive promotion.

Feyenoord, Everton, West ham, Fulham, Blackburn and the one who keeps calling him and Man City is Tony Pulis at Stoke. Those are just the few that I know about…..
