A Wolff And A Pitbull In Cardiff City’s Midfield

Cardiff City have formally announced the capture of Norwiegan midfielder Magnus Wolff Eikram to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer`s midfield options and in particular his creative and forward thinking possibilities. OGS has pledged a more attacking mentality so his formation and midfield selection will be important and something to watch over the coming games.

The futures of some of Malky Mackay`s key personnel will also come under scrutiny and the anchor man position, protecting the back four and breaking up play may be sacrificed to allow more creativity in the centre. ‘El Pitbull` Gary Medel has occupied that position to good effect, and has been one of the top performers during the season so far. Medel commanded a large transfer fee, and has very good pedigree so Solskjaer will certainly be looking to get the best out of the Chilean midfielder.

It could well be that Cardiff City line-up with a Wolff and a Pitbull in midfield, a canine combination with a good balance . Medel`s tenacity and defensive attributes seem a good complement for Eikram, who has the skill, passing ability and flair to unlock defences and create chances for his side.

Whittingham, Mutch, Gunnarsson, Kim Bo Kyung and Don Cowie would all hope to be involved, and all would prefer a more central role, while likely new signing Daeli can operate anywhere along the midfield. It will mean difficult decisions for Solskjaer, with the balance just as important as individuals.
